Adapted Accommodation
Find out what we do to meet your specific accommodation needs and explore our adapted rooms.

Look at our Accommodation pages to compare the types of accommodation the University offers.
Students with a disability and/or a medical condition may need priority for a particular type of accommodation because of their condition.
For example:
- You may need priority for a room with an ensuite because of a medical condition
- You may require priority for self-catered accommodation because of a significant dietary need
- You may require an accessible room because of a physical disability
- You may feel it will be a strain for you to be living off campus because of your condition
- You may need a ground floor room or accommodation with lift access due to a physical or health need
To ensure students with a disability or health need get the right sort of accommodation, the Disability and Dyslexia Service ask these students to complete a request for Priority Accommodation through the pathway on the Student Support portal. You will need to distinguish between what is necessary because of your condition, and what is preferrable because of your own taste. Please carefully detail factors that you believe are essential because of your condition.
We recommend applicants complete this information at the earliest point possible i.e. March or April for those planning to start their course at the university the following academic year. We will do our best to meet the accommodation needs of those who complete the pathway later, i.e. May or June, but options may be more limited at this point.
If as an applicant you have not already shared information about a disability or health need with the Disability and Dyslexia team, then you should also complete this separate pathway on the Support portal. Link to ‘Sharing your needs’ If any further information, support or access to the Support Portal Pathway is needed, please email disabilitydyslexia@chi.ac.uk.
Completion of the Priority Accommodation pathway enables the Priority Accommodation Panel to review individual requests and the reasons behind these requests. Wherever possible, a room that meets need is allocated. If further information or discussion is needed, then an advisor will contact you.
When a request has been approved by the Panel, the applicant will receive an email to confirm this. The exact accommodation block and room is confirmed to the applicant over the summer by the Accommodation Allocations team.
For applicants with very specific access requirements due to a physical disability, please contact the Disability and Dyslexia team to link with an advisor and arrange a physical viewing of the accessible rooms available. You can contact the Disability and Dyslexia Office by email at disabilitydyslexia@chi.ac.uk or call us on 01243 812076.
We have rooms available that feature standard adaptations for wheelchair users.
Each room has either a large wet room with shower seat or shower cubical area with seat, handrails and an additional panic alarm.
Amberley Hall, Chilgrove Hall and Harting Hall offer the best degree of comfort and convenience to wheelchair users.
These halls come with wide corridors and lobbies, automatic/power assisted doors, dual power lifts and swipe-card entrance.
You will share a standard kitchen with three other students, and modifications have been made to the kitchen to suit individual needs.
On the Bishop Otter campus, Chichester, there are currently eight adapted rooms suitable for wheelchair users, six en-suite and two with shared bathrooms. We are continuing to develop and expand the number of accessible rooms we have.
On the Bognor Regis campus there are two en-suite adapted rooms suitable for wheelchair users.
Further wheelchair accessible bedrooms are available at Stockbridge, near Chichester train station, or Fishbourne with regular buses to the Bishop Otter campus.
Accommodation for carers can also be arranged, though students need to be aware that the rental for the carer’s room is charged to the student at the normal rate.
Applicants who require personal care support will need to discuss and arrange this with their home Social Services Department as the University is unable to provide personal care support.
For all queries around parking on campus, please email travelplan@chi.ac.uk
