Explore the support available for students with vision, hearing and mobility issues.

Our Disability Advice Service and Sensory Advisor are available throughout your degree to support you and your studies.

We have a range of support available to help you excel during your studies. Find out more about the support available for students with sight loss, hearing loss and mobility needs below.

Our Sensory Advisor will contact all students who share information about their sight loss with the Disability and Dyslexia team to arrange a meeting. Sharing your Needs

 This discussion will result in identified, agreed reasonable adjustments that the university will make to enable the student’s learning. Reasonable Adjustments

Reasonable adjustments might include:

  • Alternative arrangements if you feel you may have difficulty using facilities such as the libraries, photocopiers, departmental offices and academic registry.
  • Resources which are digitally accessible
  • Support with campus orientation
  • Support with ensuring university accommodation meets need
  • Ensuring a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan is in place if needed
  • Special arrangements for exams and assessments
  • Adjustments for work placements

The Disabled Student’s Allowance may provide blind or sight impaired students with the following resource: notetaking support, sighted guide, mobility training, specialist study support and specialist software.

The Sensory Advisor is one key point of contact for blind or sight impaired students throughout their time at university.

  • Adjustments for work placements
